This past weekend was the GIANT Yard Sale! G-I-A-N-T! I have never been a part of such an enormous yard sale.
When Jonathan and I decided to adopt, we were encouraged to do some fundraising and a garage sale was one of the suggested events. Friends and family began spreading the word and I soon had a garage full of baby items and more. I continued to collect items, but as the months went by I kept saying, “when it’s cooler I’ll do it” or “this weekend is so busy.” I soon became discouraged and overwhelmed at the pricing job before me and was about to give up when a sweet friend came along and said, “why don’t you let me organize the yard sale and put it on Facebook.” She offered to collect items in her big van (she has a family of 9) weekly at our homeschool community! This quickly became a large event with many friends and family joining our family and lightening the load.

It is the end of October…the end of October! We have a lot of catching up to do! The time since our last update has been so packed and the blog updates got away from us. We continue to joyfully move forward in the adoption and want to update you on where we are in the process…
Continue reading Where Did the Time Go?
I’ve been the good ole Mr. Mom quite a bit lately as Aubrey is working many hours trying to make some income. It’d help if I would get off my rump and find a job, right? Just kidding… hopefully I’ll be hearing back from a company in Fort Walton this week with good news (keep praying).
Anyway, my baby girl, Avery and I have somewhat of a routine now. We get the older two kids in bed and then I walk her until she falls to sleep. Spoiled? Yeah, maybe just a wee bit. That’s ok… it’s my last little girl. We were keeping her in her room to go to sleep and sometimes just laying her in the crib, but now that she is sharing the room with Ragan it is a bit more challenging. So I’m walking her around in my bedroom the other night with the lights off and the ceiling fan going. Avery was snuggled into my neck and her body was limp. For all I knew she was fast asleep and I was about to take her to her crib. Then to my surprise I hear a little farting sound and a tickle on my neck. Avery has just blown on my neck. She sits up in my arms and giggles at me. She then goes back to my neck and does it again. 🙂 How can you be mad at that? How cute?
Kids do all sorts of things to try and keep themselves awake. Why? When I am tired I like to lay down and just go to sleep. Why do all kids have this strange hatred for sleep? I think it is because they believe they will miss something if they close their eyes. I don’t know; just a theory.
I just wanted you to know that my certification went really well today and I did indeed get “certified”! Yay! I even got to take home all of the food that the manager ordered. Yup! Free food! ;) I quickly took it home to Jonathan and the kids (who were so excited to see some take out) so I could pick up a shift for someone tonight. I worked all by myself and I survived… hee hee. I was able to get some shifts for this week as well and will be working lunches Mon – Wed if anyone wants to come in (Romano’s Macaroni Grill) and see me (for those who live in the P’cola area). God is so awesome!
Thanks so much for your prayers and friendship.
This morning I got a call from Macaroni Grill letting me know that I got the job if I was still interested. I was shocked! I start training on Saturday and then continue my training through next week. I will be running food on Friday and Saturday of next week. This comes to us with good and bad feelings as Jonathan just had a great interview in Ft. Walton and could actually have a job where he’d be commuting 2 hours each day. I couldn’t work if that were the case and I’d have to tell Macaroni Grill about that new situation and it would be awkward, but who knows if he’s going to get that job. We can hope. We don’t know so I am moving ahead with Macaroni Grill just in case. Something inside is happy that with the two major restaurant closings in town (Copelands & Smokey Bones) and all the applicants that were looking for jobs that I made it to the acceptance call. It’s just a waiting job, but I think that it was encouraging none the less.
Anyway, God is in control and He knows what needs to happen in our family right now and He always provides for our every need… abundantly and above.
Thanks for your prayers,
Well, this has been an exciting month for us as I’m sure it has been for many people. Ragan started 1st grade at Alethia Christian Academy. It is a major change from a large Kindergarden room with many “centers” and friends sitting together around tables to a smaller room, desks in a row, and no centers. She seems to really be enjoying it already though. She’s excited about the year ahead. Gavin started Preschool this month at Alethia as well. He ran to his class on the first day and told me that he loves going to school. I (Aubrey) am dealing with a changing identity with two children in school and only Avery at home, but so far, I’m enjoying this new stage. Avery continues to be such a sweet girl. At 12 weeks and 16.1 lbs she is an arm full of love. We are enjoying watching her grow and develop into an alert, observant, little baby. She loves to hear Ragan sing to her and watch Gavin as he plays with his many bugs and dinosaurs all around her. They both change their voices to a sweet high-pitched tune when they interact with her and you can tell she loves it by the way her whole body smiles in response. Both Ragan and Gavin began playing soccer for the YMCA here in town and have their first games on August 26th. We can’t wait to attend our first games. Jonathan continues to work at Smart Cop. He has started running early in the mornings and is loving the rush of adrenaline he gets from that.
Until Next Time,
We can hardly believe that Avery is already 6 weeks old! Time flew by too quickly and now our newborn baby is 12.2 lbs! Yes, we did it again…a big baby. She is such a happy little lady and we are thankful for her. She caught her first cold this past week and had to visit the Dr. Poor baby really doesn’t appreciate the saline drops and suctioning that is taking place around here. Milestones include smiling at her Daddy and I, ahh-goo sounds, blowing rasberries, a trip to the movies, and her first shower. I must say that she loves the shower.
Ragan and Gavin have been very active this Summer, although I was worried that they would be bored to death since we just had a baby, and they have done lots of fun things with friends and family…Vacation Bible School, swimming at Grahm & Grandaddy’s, the Movies (Ice Age 2 & Curious George), trips to the library & various playdates with friends. Ragan got her hair cut to her shoulders and she absolutely loves it! Her Daddy is especially pleased with his big girl’s new do. She feels so happy that Mommy is no longer working on the tangles in her hair. Gavin is really becoming more social. He asks to go places with people and is venturing out away from Mommy more. He is really growing up and becoming a polite little man. We enjoy watching him love on Avery by rubbing her hair and sniffing it so that it tickles his nose. Both of the kids love her and have been very attentive and helpful. We feel so blessed!
Our first month with Avery has truly been a blessing. She is so peaceful and sweet. We sure didn’t understand the turn of events that occurred before actually getting pregnant with her, but we now know that God’s timing is the best timing. We are so happy with the way that Ragan and Gavin are loving and welcoming her into our home without jealousy and just longing to be close to her. The biggest question we get is “Can I hold her now?”. Avery continues to lock eyes with us longer and even a slight “ah-goo” as we change her diapers and talk together. She is currently still sleeping in a bassinet next to our bed and that is working out well. At her two week check-up she had gained a few ounces (9 lbs.) and 1/2 an inch. In this month (June) we have enjoyed a visit from Aunt Carassa and Uncle Andy. They drove down from Memphis, TN and met Avery. It was a special time. The kids enjoyed being spoiled by them when they were treated to water guns and a big water fight in the back yard! On June 19th we were able to share in a “freedom call” with our cousin Charles who is serving in Iraq. He watched his 3rd son celebrate his 1st birthday! It was an amazing and emotional event that we were so honored to be a part of. Enjoying the ride….Aubrey
